Radiology

Hillsboro Community Hospital provides quality and detailed digital diagnostic, computed tomography, and ultrasound exams. Mammograms and Dexa exams are also available every other month. MRI services are offered weekly. We are staffed with experienced Radiologic Technologists that are nationally and state licensed.

As a convenience to the surrounding communities, we can also perform exams ordered by outside providers. Exams and results can be forwarded to the ordering provider.

X-Ray (diagnostic)

Our newly installed, Konica D-EVO Suite, x-ray unit enables us to provide digital x-rays by taking images of internal bone structures. It is also used to detect a wide range of internal conditions within the abdomen and chest cavities. For example, the exams can support surgical planning as well as guide insertion of devices into the body. These images are sent electronically to our Radiologists for interpretation and results are directed to the ordering provider.

HCH has also obtained a newly revised portable so that it creates digital imaging as well. This is a great option to have for emergency situations such as chest pain, broken bones, etc.

CT (Computed Tomography)

Computed Tomography, also referred as CT, is a Fugi Film, 16 slice, that utilizes low dose techniques to obtain cross sectional anatomy within seconds. The images can then be reconstructed in many formats for extensive detail such as 3D imaging. This aids the doctors in diagnosing any disorders or illness. It may also be used to help in treatment planning as well as checking progression of ailments and growths. Images can even been sent in a digital format to doctors who are in our network.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound wave as well as the principle of sonar. It is an exam that does not require the use of radiation. Used to evaluate internal organs, venous and arterial systems, it is most commonly known for evaluating fetal growth as well as possible complications of pregnancy.

Ultrasound is real-time imaging. As such, it can show movement of internal organs and tissues. Additionally, it allows physicians to see the full function of the heart. This enables diagnosis of heart conditions or damage from heart attack.

In ultrasound, various tools are used to increase the diagnostic and interpretation of the study. Our new Hitachi Arietta 850 routinely uses color flow, pulsed continual wave and power Doppler. The resolution (clarity) is considerably upgraded making image interpretation exponentially improved.

Low Dose Lung Screening

Low dose lung screening is a low dose CT exam used to detect the presence of lung cancer in otherwise healthy people with a high risk of lung cancer.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Mobile MRI services are provided once a week. MRIs are performed by using magnetic fields and radio frequency pulses thus eliminating the use of radiation. This type of exam enables the provider to obtain a picture not only of the bone, but soft tissue, muscle, tendons and ligaments. Unfortunately mobile MRI is not able to perform exams for those who have pacemakers.

Dexa (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry)

Also known as a bone density scan, Dexa is used to measure bone density. Typically the lower back and hips are scanned. The resulted measurement can then be used to determine if medication is needed to help prevent future fractures due to bone loss (osteoporosis). This is a painless procedure and patients receive minimal radiation exposure.

Dexa scans are best for women over age 65 and men over age 70 with your physician's
request.

Mammograms

HCH is excited to be able to offer Mobile Mammograms. A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breast. A radiologist reads the scans and then reports the results to you and your doctor. Doctors can then use that information to look for early signs of breast cancer. At this time, mobile mammograms are offered 1 day every other month.

Surgical Suite

HCH is proud to have a GE OEC 9800 C-Arm to provide 'live' imaging during your surgical or pain clinic experience. This unit allows the provider to see the images instantaneously to help with guidance and location of anatomy during any procedure.

Copies of Exams

If you would like copies of your exam, please let us know and a CD can be provided. A valid HIPAA authorization and a medical record release form must be completed and signed by the patient or guardian.

Hillsboro Community Hospital Radiology provides all of the services described above for inpatients and outpatients. Technologists are available for CT and X-ray for emergencies and in-patients 24/7. Ultrasound is provided at varying times throughout the week. MRI is available at HCH on Tuesdays. The staff is available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm for any outpatient exams or procedures that may be scheduled by calling (620)877-4273. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have. A prescription, or written order, is required from your provider before any Radiology exam can be performed.
