Swing Bed

Our Swing bed program offers care for patients who have recovered from the acute phase of their illness, accident or surgery, but are not yet ready to return home. Patients receive skilled nursing or hospital-level care as needed. This provides the patient with a comfortable and supportive environment for continued recovery.

What is a swing bed?
A swing bed is a service provided in a Medicare-certified rural hospital, allowing patients to remain in the hospital for follow-up care rather than be discharged home before they are ready. The swing bed program also prevents being discharged to a nursing home for rehabilitation or further strengthening that is only needed for a limited time before the patient can return home. Our swing bed program allows you to get the care you need while remaining close to home.

Our care team is committed to providing personalized care to help you regain your independence to return home!

Who can have a swing bed?
Patients who may benefit from skilled nursing care and rehabilitative services in a swing bed include those who are recovering from surgical procedures, receiving IV therapy, physical, occupational, or speech therapy to improve daily living, and those with wound or skin conditions or other medical conditions that may require additional follow-up care.

If your provider determines that swing bed care will benefit you, they will work with our care team to arrange your transfer to our facility. If you meet the criteria for admission to skilled care and your provider recommends this care for you, a referral can be sent for review. We will coordinate with your healthcare team to ensure a smooth transition and provide the care you need during your stay.
